I think the reason paint was done the way it was is because it loads faster and lags less. If you look at any brick in the mission editor, you'll notice it has a paint ID (can't remember what its called). To switch to hex codes might mean larger save files and longer load times. I could be wrong, but I think I am at least close to the truth.

I forgot about saving/loading. Dammit.

This could easily be done with engine changes but I'm not going to do it because 1. I don't think it's a good idea gameplay wise and 2. Transmitting the brick color with 32 bits instead of the current 6 would add significantly to the loading time.

It would take away from the blokoness. Lego Bricks are not made up of a 1000s of colors. It wouldnt be realistic.

They kinda ARE made up of thousands of colors. If not thousands, then hundreds.
