Relative oppression:
Imagine you're in a fancy, world-renowned hotel. However, you're on the ground floor, your room smells like stuff, the staff refuse to clean it, and the people in the really nice rooms up above throw their garbage onto your room's balcony. Should you complain even though the hotel next door is even worse?
It's the blame game. People in the modern day refuse to accept personal responsibility for their own stuffty lives so they blame it on everyone else. Working your way out of the hole you dug is hard.
"Don't forget that most men with nothing would rather protect the possibility of becoming rich, than face the reality of being poor." -John richardinson, fictional version of, 1776.
