Author Topic: LEGO UNIVERSE MEMORIES/JONNY'S SERVER [dev. roadmap PG.3]  (Read 5597 times)

Lego Universe was a massively multiplayer online game and was available from October 2010 to February 2012. It was a  kid-friendly massively multiplayer online game from NetDevil and Warner Brothers Interactive that was set in a place called Wonderland, where players could create their own characters and cooperate in tasks to advance them. Players would fight against the Maelstorm, a dark menace spreading chaos and destruction throughout the LEGO Universe. The game had four factions, each of which had three specialties with their own ranks and gear. LEGO Universe had several worlds to explore and featured an item crafting component and many activities. The game was shut down in January of 2012.

THE REVIVAL PROJECT, JONNY'S SERVER

Jonny's Server:
A server being developed only by somebody named Jonny with a little help of some moderators. It is an open server, and while not much is functional, you can still explore and have access to many of the items.

lol i remember trying to play this but not being able to get a framerate over 5 fps on the character creation screen

LEGO Universe's great legacy was how it inspired an entire generation of children to never shut the forget up about it.

The gameplay was mediocre, and that's not improved by these ridiculous "revival" projects. Scrapped network data can only go so far, and I guarentee you'll never be able to 100% accurately replicate the original server behaviour.

That said, at least this is not as embarrassingly awful as the LEGO Nexus Adventures fan-project. What a stuffshow that is.

lego universe was awful for actually building iirc

Why can't small children let a dead game stay dead, motherloving "mourning thread". What did you say? "February 2012" A full four years and nine months ago. Give it a rest already.

It was a pain in the loving ass

From what I remember, it was basically Lego Digital Designer but with every lego piece ever made being available. I do remember some aspects of it being pretty bleh, though.
My problem with it was that what you built didn't really have much of a use or meaning in the actual game (at least it didn't in the closed beta that I played).

(at least it didn't in the closed beta that I played).

All you had was a little plot of space that you could build in

Nothing more

Think gallery, but with lego

but with every lego piece ever made being available
Absolutely, undeniably wrong. There are hundreds of thousands of different parts, many with multiple unique variations, and a lot of them would be completely incompatible with LEGO Universe's building system, ignoring the fact that LEGO doesn't like to acknowledge half of its parts database in its digital applications.

Ah really? My bad then. I guess I shouldn't have made a statement about it, being that I never did look too closely into what pieces that LU might have been missing. I remember seeing that it had a pretty decent number of the more obscure pieces, so I figured it must have had essentially everything.

This. The game was never appealing to me

i don't really remember much that was too memorable from the beta and i didn't actually play the game after that. i remember that it was pretty nicely polished and pleasant but overall i can't think of anything that really set my world on fire. obvs a lot of people liked it tho, and i'm sure there were some aspects of the game that i never really got to see

i thought it was fun for a little bit but i wasn't even interested enough to participate in the last day of the server being up lol

the building was cumbersome and limited, everything was laggy and buggy and it was a total grindfest. the only thing i liked about it was the character customization and playing with other people in big groups but beyond that, it just wasn't worth it

there were better games then and there are still better games that feature character customization, excellent building, little to no lag, enjoyable gameplay, and large groups of players at once such as blockland, lego worlds, minecraft, and even roblox.

there's nothing special about lego universe other than "muh nostalgia" for something that was trying to popularize "hot garbage" as a game genre. Despite this, I will admit that the soundtrack was VERY well done.

I actually thought this was a fun game when I played it.

I never played this game, but I thought I remember a friend telling me you had to pay almost everytime you played or something like that?

i do agree that lego universe was mediocre but i just want to play it again for nostalgia purposes and to see if anyone else was following these projects. same thing as toontown, the game was pretty awful but relivin those memories are pretty sweet

i didn't expect anyone to mourn, most of this forum are teenagers 15+ and if they played it they probably got over it closing a long time ago. i just wanted to start a thread to share memories of the game and to see if anyone else was following the revival projects in any way

also who gave you a wedgie? chill
