Author Topic: Question about HL2 (Half-Life 2)  (Read 1570 times)

So, some of you may know about the Combine. AKA Universal Union, a massive advanced alien-like empire that takes over planets and dimensions and extracts information from them. If they find any species of life that is helpful to them, they will capture that certain species and enslave them, and/or brainwash (prevent them from rebelling against the Combine) them and use them to assist them in battle. They will also do advanced surgery and adding weapons,  How would the Hunter synth and Claw Scanner would've looked like before the
Universal Union enslaved those types of creatures?  :cookieMonster:

it would probably belong in the games subforum

Here's some example pictures of these two synths. The thing about these scanners, is that their used for scanning enviroments. (may be wrong.) One of them is mechanical, and one of them is living. (aka the claw scanner)

it'd probably look like a teratoma flopping about

This also includes Dropships, Striders, and Gunships. The Combine are just really hellbent on universe domination, and they'll weaponize anything. I dunno exactly how'd they look without their fancy gadgets, but I think they'd look something like Combine Soldiers without clothes on

Maybe for the shield scanner, it possibly might be just flesh. Who knows? It might've had surgically attached shell or something. *judging by the fact that it has the mark of the Universal Union on it.*

the creation of biological and technological engineering fused together

they are manmade biological creations

I'd love to see pre-enslaved striders or gunships. Maybe the Gunship would've been some kind of gliding animal. *I was thinking possibly water, but very small chance.*

If you actually look closely at the jets of the Dropship's model, you can see the scarring of the surgery the UU did on dropships.
Kinda creepy that they're living. (I think they're living..) And how the hell do they see?

I'd imagine they were wildlife from other planets which the combine infused with technology. So take away all the fancy tech stuff and thats what they looked like.

(accidentally quoted my own post by an accident here. ignore this. -.-

there's really no way of telling

what we do know is the synths (strider, hunter, the ensalved- including overwatch soldiers) have varying levels of modification, from minimum to maximum. that's about all we can really say for what we have and what we know.

thing is though is that's the beauty of half life 2. you're given so little in a post-war world that it's usually left to your own to try to interpret what happens or what was what. i usually look to hl2 beta for those kinds of things, though it doesn't really help for stuff like this, hence the need for interpretation and ~imagination~

that's kind of where a lot of people fall, too, they look for direct answers from the game rather than looking to interpretation

i feel like i'm wording myself wrong here, though i've been on 4-hour sleeps for a little while so please forgive me

the problem with this is that it's like saying 'this is what the roman empire looks like' and then posting an image of a spearman from western europe without knowing really what anyone else looks like.

i'm willing to say it's a safe bet they'd look nothing human-like. i'd use a few cut enemies as an example like the 'combine alien soldier' or the 'alien assassin' as examples, but those were cut and there's no real way to say whether or not they're canon, but i guess that's part of what my post before said- interpretation.

what we do know is the combine has advanced so far that they're able to rely entirely onto technology, take for example the advisor. we're able to also know that the advisor is not at all the combine, but maybe only a higher 'class' of conquered species, seeing as they seem to run the show with some of the forces on earth, kind of like a commander or deployment leader, though that much is left to speculation

near the end of half life 2 when breen was trying to escape from gordon on the citadel, in order to transfer over to a 'host body', when the portal to an offworld (also mentioned by the overwatch voice at one point) location, we see an entirely non-earthlike world, red, glowing skies, and multiple citadel-like structures, and that's about all we can really tell. this probably wasn't 'the' homeworld, but it does give a glance at what other worlds under union ownership looks like
