That seems like it opens up the door to loads of abuse of normal people. If someone becomes a paraplegic, do you expect them to go off and die even though they're still fully mentally aware,

You're implying a paraplegic can't get a desk job or nearly any job that doesn't require manual labour.

i dont believe in global warming but i vehemently hate pollution

assuming they have little education and have worked in manual labor their entire life

and what about quadriplegia?

and also it's sorta beside the point
should anyone have to die just because they can't contribute to others

assuming they have little education and have worked in manual labor their entire life

Customer support isn't a very education demanding job.

and what about quadriplegia?

Funnily enough Foxscotch I know a quadriplegia (well sorta quadrol, she has an arm but no fingers on that arm, rest of the limbs are amputated). She works as a psychiatrist.

Even people with downs can contribute to society and work certain jobs. Granted they can't live alone but contribution is still contribution.

still beside the point
should people be treated properly because they are useful or because they are human beings

should people be treated properly because they are useful or because they are human beings
you are asking the wrong person dawg

still beside the point

i don't see how it could be anything but the latter. usefulness is completely subjective, and it is a thoroughly awful idea to give anyone or anything power over what standard of "usefulness" should be used to tell people how valuable they are and how they should be treated

if you treat people as less than a normal person because you don't think they're "useful," you're straight up being an starfish.

...essayons again?

problem: defining human in an era where sentient robotics are right around the corner
