Author Topic: do feel de-sensitized to violence after videogames? (POLL)  (Read 3119 times)

it's an interesting study. i realise my sense of feeling and or remorse has gone away when i see a certain violent game, picture, really anything. im not sure if its the same case for you guys.

Ya, I remember playing the first Dead Space when it came out and I was really young

Playing other gory stuff wasnt that bad anymore

As a kid I used to get upset when I saw disturbing stuff in video games. Now I know it's just polygons and fake 2D particle effects. I don't feel any more comfortable watching gore videos than I did as a kid.

You probably run a greater risk of becoming 'desensitized to violence' by watching edgy garbage like Saw and Final Destination since it's closer to real gore.

videogames help you get used to fiction and reality. if i actually disembowled someone in front of you, you'd still be spooked. it doesn't matter how gory something is- if you know it's fake, you won't care

so i saw people die in games and movies

then I decided to watch people die in 4chan, and that's what did the desensitizing, along with that reddit 50/50 stuff

No matter how many mutilated zombies you get hit by in Left 4 Dead, demons you kill in Doom or police you shoot in Grand Theft Auto and Payday (The Heist/2), blood will still not be a pretty sight in real life.

Also what Juncoph said.

desensitized to virtual violence? sure.

but IRL? more than likely not desensitized.

People can say they are desensitized to over-the-top violence, but if they actually experience real violence, that's a whole different story.

As long as violence doesn't happen to loved ones, I'm not really bothered by it.

Seeing someone get gutted in a game is nothing close to real life. Not even CIA execution videos give you any idea of how it feels to have someone killed right in front of you.

True.

Not true. Remember that specific half-hour video regarding how to make bombs and kill?

by desensitized i mean when you see violence or play a game like Hatred you don't feel remorse. i don't feel sickened by beheadings, or really gory stuff anymore, when on the other hand, i only feel remorse for children and animals because they aren't the living beings being killed.

maybe. but its not a bad thing. being desensitized to something dosnt draw to you do it in reality.
thats what the entire argument is referencing.

personally i think the entire 1st world has become far to sensitized to everything...
loving pussies.

Fictional violence means nothing to me. Real violence does and makes me angry. I have a very black and white outlook on the concept of what is right and what is wrong.

hell no especially since i barely even play any games with too much gore but even if i did
