Pretty sure it means they might use that post for something more in the future

It means that they'll edit it if they need to, such as changelogs or when the OP has hit the character limit and needs better, organized space. People also do it just to be funny I guess.

its so that if their op post is giant they have another post with which to more easily add content to

usually I do it, so in the future, if I need to, I can give that post to somebody who needs it.
