Uhh, bad films aren't a new thing, but this year has definitely been one of the worst in recent times, which is the point I'm trying to make. Video games this year have also been very bad, though they're a little bit harder to calculate, so I didn't include them.

Yeah mainstream film is just a money grab, it's gross. Got any insight into music, painting, etc? Or just film?

Everything is done for money. Videogames and music too. That doesn't mean they can't be high-quality works of art. I can't really observe worldwide painting trends, so when I say 'Art' I'm mostly referring to media--video-games, TV, and movies (which have all slumped this year as well), since that is most people's primary exposure the arts. Music too, but I don't listen to a lot of new music so I couldn't judge how it was this year.


SECTION 2 - TRAGEDY:

- This year has been terrible for the US in terms of terrorism and mass shootings.
2016 showed an increase in the severity and appearance of mass shootings :

• Wikipedia lists 9 US mass shootings in 2015, compared to 15 US mass shootings in 2016.
• Wikipedia lists 46 deaths from shootings in 2015, compared to 63 shooting deaths in 2016.
• Wikipedia lists 43 injuries from shootings in 2015, compared to 75 shooting injuries in 2016.
• That's an increase of 6 major shootings, with an additional 17 deaths and 32 injuries.

2016 has had far more terrorism than we did 5 years ago, and CIA opposition has slowed:

• There were 1986 Islamic Terrorist attacks in 2011, compared to 2475 attacks in 2016.
• There were 9086 deaths from terror in 2011, compared to 21240 in 2016. — $179.2 million
• There were 16921 injuries from terror in 2011, compared to 26677 in 2016.
• That's an increase of 12154 deaths and 9756 injuries over just 5 years.
• While the Islamic State lost almost 2/3 of their territory from June 2014 - June 2015, they lost just 9% from June 2015 to June 2016.
