Someone has to agree with me that the Half Life series has criminally underrated music

Someone has to agree with me that the Half Life series has criminally underrated music
i do

on the topic of half life music, these are some of my favorites
Space Ocean
Vague Voices
Nepal Monastery
Electric Guitar Ambiance
Cavern Ambiance
Hurricane Strings
really great atmospheric songs, fits the setting of half-life 1 perfectly and they all give off a creepy "you're not alone" vibe
theres so many more songs like these but its hard to pick favorites and list them

I have heard a lot of great video game music, but for the sake of keeping this "short" I just picked out the ones from some of my favorite games and series.

Battlefield
Battlefield has one of the most recognizable themes out there. How the heck could you not love the deep rumbling of the drums calling you into action? Granted, in between Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 1, they tried to go electronic (which I was not a big fan of), but I was very impressed with Battlefield 1's soundtrack. Here are a few of my favorites from the series.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0aXAm0jqd0 - Battlefield 2: MEC Theme (Okay, yeah, it's not the main theme, but this loading music brings back a lot of memories.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnlA2rCHJHY - Battlefield 2142: Main Theme (I liked this one just because it started off original, and then developed into something else entirely.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnWB-nnlzqg&index=15&list=PLbZoYkHzfDbyNyPX-yg2BZaYyuqp4OzTL - Battlefield 1: Classic Theme (They brought back the orchestra. Beauty to my ears.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzjeF8cciAg&list=PLbZoYkHzfDbyNyPX-yg2BZaYyuqp4OzTL&index=5 - Battlefield 1: We Push (This was a great introduction to the game in the prologue.)

Undertale
I would add more, but this is the only track I would be able to enjoy without the game accompanying it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3sJ79C1Zyo&list=PLpJl5XaLHtLX-pDk4kctGxtF4nq6BIyjg&index=81 - Undertale: An Ending (I absolutely love piano music. I also love buildups in songs. This one is an obvious given for me, especially when it picks up at around 1:00.)

Mass Effect
Okay, yeah, I was a little late to the Mass Effect train, considering I only finished the trilogy about a week ago. However, that doesn't change the fact that this was one of the greatest game series I have ever played, regardless of the ending. Some of the moments in the game almost had me in tears, and part of that was because of the music design.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3RPPHbk28w&index=1&list=PLUsUI867tICmwZykCOuzqOK6dJ3KmvBFY - Mass Effect: Main Theme (One of the best introductions into a game series that I've ever seen.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9tAPNEbrtw&index=25&list=PLUsUI867tICmwZykCOuzqOK6dJ3KmvBFY - Mass Effect: Uncharted Worlds (This is the music that plays when you're exploring the galaxy. It definitely makes me feel like I am doing such. A classic in the series.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmlkXMC2rE0&index=27&list=PLUsUI867tICmwZykCOuzqOK6dJ3KmvBFY - Mass Effect: Vigil (This track initially didn't have much of an impact on me, but as the games progressed, it came to symbolize remembrance of fallen comrades and past memories. Anyone who has played through the entire series knows exactly what I mean.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXCM0lZxh4U&list=PLUsUI867tICmwZykCOuzqOK6dJ3KmvBFY&index=43 - Mass Effect 2: Normandy Reborn (In my opinion, this was just as epic as the revealing of the starship Enterprise in the original Star Trek movie.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTsD2FjmLsw&index=61&list=PLUsUI867tICmwZykCOuzqOK6dJ3KmvBFY - Mass Effect 2: Self Delete Mission (Yes, I know, this is mostly electronic, which contradicts what I said about Battlefield's music... but here, it fits. I felt like I was undertaking the greatest mission in the history of the galaxy.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzdKil3j5jw&index=103&list=PLUsUI867tICmwZykCOuzqOK6dJ3KmvBFY - Mass Effect 3: I'm Proud Of You (Beautiful. Just beautiful. I don't cry often. That night, I cried.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5JvbD2Zc9I&index=104&list=PLUsUI867tICmwZykCOuzqOK6dJ3KmvBFY - Mass Effect 3: An End Once and For All (More somber than sad, but after all the hours I had sunk into the games, it really tugged on the heart strings.)

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I honestly can't go without mentioning this game, especially since the remastered version was released. The soundtrack in it was stellar, and this was possibly one of Bethesda's greatest masterpieces. The universe just sucked me in, with both the visuals and the music.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga8KbMcUfm8&list=PLAC035C8352A7AA66 - Skyrim: Far Horizons (A classic exploration tune that every true adventurer should know.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyl4hQsij_c&list=PLAC035C8352A7AA66&index=10 - Skyrim: Awake (One of the first tracks you hear, and the first one that pulled me straight into the world almost immediately.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7nmtReFnDs&list=PLAC035C8352A7AA66&index=9 - Skyrim: Dragonborn (What more is there to say? When I'm slaying a dragon, this is the music I want to be playing while I'm fighting.)

Halo 3
I never got into the first two Halo games, but the third one. Hoo, boy. The music was one of the best parts about that game. There are plenty more great tracks in Halo, but this one is one of my favorites.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBjKWKN6jaI - Halo 3: Never Forget (Just a flurry of emotions and nostalgia hit me when I listen to that one.)

Let me know if any of you like or dislike the same tracks, I'm honestly curious. And if you read all of this, then thanks, I guess. I kind of went to town with it. Because I can.

Video game soundtracks can be really good as standalone creations but if a non-nerd asks you "What music do you listen to?" it isn't a valid answer.

On the topic of very good video game music I guess I'd go for Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Penumbra: Overture and of course (and also Suitor-related music from Amnesia: Justine)

Honorable mention goes to the [url=https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=54aygAZCKzw]Payday 2 soundtrack
. While Simon Viklund (composer for this game) may not be the action counterpart to Mikko Tarnia (composer for all of Frictional Games' work, including Penumbra: Overture and A:TTD) he's certainly competent. Also there's an action remix of a Christmas jingle and it's the only remix of a Christmas jingle I don't cringe at. Don't ask.
