Video game soundtracks can be really good as standalone creations but if a non-nerd asks you "What music do you listen to?" it isn't a valid answer.
Spitting the absolute truth. Most OSTs are only good because we develop an emotional attachment while playing. Ditch the gameplay and you're generally left with mediocre electronica. Though there are some that stand on their own merits, for instance the soundtracks to Spore (generative music programmed by Brian Eno), Halo (fusion of African percussion, western classical, and techno), Minecraft (pretty decent downtempo reminiscent of a watered down Aphex Twin), etc.
