this is the closest it's been since 1953, when it reached 2 minutes due to the US and USSR testing nuclear weapons within nine months of each other.

for reference, the doomsday clock is symbolic of how close we are to possible global catastrophe. it was created after WWII to warn against the possibility of nuclear war, and today also factors in global warming and global political instability.

i mean when asked if he'd use nuclear weapons in europe or the middle east, he said he "wouldn't take any of his cards off the table," but i'm pretty sure this tick is more to do with the spread of nationalism, disregard for climate change, and north korea's continued tests

well, honestly, I can't imagine this is unbiased

i'm sure it's inspired by Annoying Orange, but honestly did you expect them to ignore the fact that the new US president 1) considers the use of nuclear weapons a viable option 2) ignores the very real threat of climate change and 3) opposes some of the institutions holding the world together, such as the UN (also, brexit and the EU)
