Author Topic: What happened to static maps?  (Read 1914 times)

I recently found out about an old mod that creates map objects in blockland after joining a server that apparently ran the Bedroom map.

Sadly, this mod is about 4+ years old and hasn't gone anywhere besides making bedroom availible, and im unable to reply to it's thread due to its age. I would like to support this mod to make all the old maps availible, but where has the developer gone?

It's not that old, it's more like 2 1/2

There are a few other static maps that were made with this, did you miss them? There's Asteroids, a Second Bedroom, and a Planet. Check the thread you linked.

He appears to have abandoned the forum and the game at large. Sad. What's sadder though is that no one is willing to step up and take his place, despite there being multiple users who are qualified and skilled enough to continue his work.

making maps for this mod is extremely tedious, and even then the collision is extremely buggy. The best way you could support this mod is to make a map, but you have to understand that for collision to work it requires thousands of convex shapes intricately placed at every point on the map that you don't want the player to go through. I've tried making the kitchen for this, and gave up after realising it would take many whole days to complete it due to how complex the map is. The dif file didn't export as well as the bedroom did, and so the textures were completely forgeted as well.

I don't think people understand that you can't just press a button on a map to static map converter and have it work. Making a map would require days of tedious work, all for it to turn out that vehicles fall through the map because the collision is buggy.

If someone handed me a properly textured blend file for the kitchen I'd give another go at it
