Author Topic: [NEWS] Anti-Annoying Orange HW assignment given to 11-yr-old in NYC, father of kid upset  (Read 6740 times)

unprofessional, but unlike the rest of the people here i think it would be fine if they were fired. one of the biggest problems with our education system is that we arent rigorous enough in judging teachers and in setting a high bar of quality when it comes to them. if a teacher cant put aside their opinions in favor of teaching as objectively as possible (barring for the purpose of jokes) then they shouldn't be surprised if other people's opinions towards their cause them to lose their job

that said, a lot of people tolerated Annoying Orange's extreme use of personal opinion in his proposals and speeches so i guess thats why most of you are okay with this teacher not losing their job. im not against expressing personal opinions, but if it isn't explicitly defined as one in a classroom setting it can arguably be considered as indoctrination of an opinion, esp with students this young.

im not very satisfied with this post so i wouldnt be surprised if someone called me out on thinking this teacher should be fired. i'll try to rephrase it better it anyone has a beef with it

what i got from ur post was "we arent sharp enough in judging teachers and this is an example of it so we need to fix our mistake and fire them"

i completely agree and i even agree that the teachers who impose religious views should be fired as well.

In grade 12 I took an advertising class. Instead what I got was a cuckhold that bitched about how everything is loveist. Since what he preached about in class had nothing to do with what we were actually in the course for we only had 6 assignments for the whole thing and I learned nothing about advertising. In Canada teachers can get away with just about anything and never be reprimanded.

If my skull is thick enough to roll my eyes at those stupid opinions

Fixed

yeah basically it. the top country for education that isnt korea iirc is denmark and, again iirc, its because they have an extremely high standard when it comes to teachers, and being a teacher there is actually a well paid and respectable job. the fact teachers like this exist here and are tolerated only bolsters the lack of respect people have for the teaching profession

I think what you said is pretty much spot on tbh. Framing one's opinion as fact is always pretty low, since they're basically misleading people.
I just hope that other teachers learn from this incident and keep their opinions as exactly that.

Opposing good education is pretty much "I want my country to be not great in the future."

Woah really

if i were a teacher, i would be loving terrified of the idea that i might get fired for accidentally letting an opinion slip out. good teachers might, from time to time, show their opinions when it might be a bit inappropriate. if a teacher is constantly talking about politics, that obviously becomes more questionable. a singular instance like this one isn't nearly enough information to say that this teacher should be fired. you're certainly playing with more fire talking about politics as a teacher, because students take the things you say as educational rather than necessarily subjective, but teachers are also human and can make honest misjudgments. i don't think anyone here is actually saying teachers should be fired for expressing opinions in the most broad sense, but i still don't agree with the idea that good teaching is impossible when a teacher states their opinions

Letting an opinion slip is fine. Forcing it as a right or wrong question in a biased way, isn't.

looking back at the question, i see what you're talking about. i still don't think it's enough information to fire the teacher.

Yeah but tbh when it's very serious stuff like politics and religion, the teacher should be fired over. When it's other things like movies, food, not as important stuff, then it shouldn't warrant them being fired.

there's no way this was accidental
this was a typed assignment, that she would've had to look over before handing out

a political opinion isn't bounds to be fired from a full-time job whatsoever
the teacher should apologize for his actions as well as directly to the parents involved

grounds for being fired would be teaching students that jews should be avoided at all costs and gassed if possible

the reason politics isn't taught in schools is for that very reason

you realize fascism is still political
