Author Topic: Blockland v0002 party  (Read 1793 times)

Blockland recently hit its 10 year anniversary last month, but did you know the game existed a few years before it was released for sale as you know it? The original game was based on the Torque engine (as it is now) but very similar to Tribes 2. It was basically an online lego-type game you could screw around in. Released in 2004, it was the Blockland everyone experienced until Feb 2007 when the full game was released. Due to the open source nature of the game, many players made some sweet mods and spinoffs of it, such as RTB, TBM, AiO, BLM and more. A tv show called The Screen Savers (predecessor of Attack Of The Show) demonstrated the game for several minutes which brought in tens of thousands of players - one of the primary factors in the game becoming financially reliable for several years. After the game was developed and sold, the original game saw its population halved, with many of those choosing to stay with the original holding some grudges. After a few years, the original game became abandonware, but a decade later, people occasionally still host servers.
