Quote
Tens of thousands of immigrants detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement were forced to work for $1 day, or for nothing at all — a violation of federal anti-slavery laws — a lawsuit claims.

The lawsuit, filed in 2014 against one of the largest private prison companies in the country, reached class-action status this week after a federal judge’s ruling. That means the case could involve as many as 60,000 immigrants who have been detained.

It’s the first time a class-action lawsuit accusing a private U.S. prison company of forced labor has been allowed to move forward.

“That’s obviously a big deal; it’s recognizing the possibility that a government contractor could be engaging in forced labor,” said Nina DiSalvo, executive director of Towards Justice, a Colorado-based nonprofit group that represents low-wage workers, including undocumented immigrants. “Certification of the class is perhaps the only mechanism by which these vulnerable individuals who were dispersed across the country and across the world would ever be able to vindicate their rights.”

Honestly, I'm fine with this. All law breakers should be forced to work, and all illegal immigrants are law-breakers.

lol

hey at least they were getting paid

alright let's lock you up for a crime you may or may not have committed and have you work for slave wages.

its alright guys the constitution says its ok

alright let's lock you up for a crime you may or may not have committed and have you work for slave wages.

well the jokes aside,
being an illegal immigrant makes you a criminal. its that simple. there is no debate.

what were they detained for? if there were nothing suspect about them, would the government make the effort detain them?

and I guarantee you that they wouldn't make them work without running an investigation on them, and if they came up as illegal immigrants, then they're criminals and they should show their affection to the US by bettering it

I'm not a criminal.

i'm completely unsurprised, it's how private prisons profit

forced labor should never be an option

~Waaah, people who broke the law have to do hard labour instead of sitting around and watching tv, walking around a court yard, or sleeping, WAAAAH~

Honestly, when you've broken the law, and you have been detained and placed in prison, (so long as you're carrying out your sentence), it shouldn't be the outside life, but just with a few more restrictions. What the stuff is this?

The fact that this can be considered "Slavery" is loving asinine, it's not like they were walking around, 'minding their own business' they broke laws, (albeit since they crossed the border, they should have been loving deported not placed in prison, get them the forget out.) This would loving stimulate the economy, and maybe persuade criminals not to loving break the law.

This entitlement bullstuff because 'hard labour is unfair, just because he broke a few laws ;C' forget no it is not unfair. If they're willing to break laws like that, then they should be willing to work hard and pay for the damn crimes they committed.

ON THE OTHER loving HAND, Why were ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS not Deported, but instead, placed in a prison to do hard labour? They are here ILLEGALLY, That means they're not supposed to be here so... GET THEM THE forget OUT.

what were they detained for? if there were nothing suspect about them, would the government make the effort detain them?

I mean that is really good insight except for the fact that you're assuming the people involved for creating and enforcing procedures are inherently good-natured, which is something that should not be done in legal brown townysis.

matthew blew a loving gasket holy stuff
