2005 ain't really that relevant.  2007-2010 and 2013-2016 would be of much more relevance.

It's not that difficult to understand if you think about it for half a second

Moving the Goalposts:

"Moving the goalposts, similar to "shifting sands" and also known as raising the bar, is an informal fallacy in which evidence presented in response to a specific claim is dismissed and some other (often greater) evidence is demanded. That is, after an attempt has been made to score a goal, the goalposts are moved to exclude the attempt. The problem with changing the rules of the game is that the meaning of the end result is changed, too." - wikipedia

This particular game usually continues until an impossible demand is issued.

Thank you, I really didn't understand what that meant. Funny, I've never heard of it either.

only intellectuals understand

only intellectuals understand
only brainlets understand*

Even I loving got it. Not as dumb as you people thought.

I don't think "moving the goalposts" applies here, because "Release recent returns" is, in my opinion, pretty implicit when requesting "release returns"

I'm not going to say how recent he should release, because I haven't followed the situation enough to know what's customary

And I'm saying what I've been saying. You don't need to release your tax returns to become president.

It is not required for presidency.

Some moron decided to release his tax returns one day and all of a sudden everyone needs to, no they don't.

Nixon only released his tax returns so he would look less scummy.

Nobody is claiming it's required.
If you can read, you'll note I said "customary"

My use of the word "should" in this case means "in the best interests of his approval rates of the American people" as opposed to "expected"
If he'd just release them, then all the people crying "hurrrrr I need to find whatever reason I can to kick him out of office...oh I know!  I bet he's committing tax fraud!" will have to choice but to move on.

Nobody is claiming it's required.

Then he doesn't need to release the returns. End of discussion.
