Author Topic: Qualities of a good server host  (Read 3394 times)

What do you suppose are some qualities of a good server host? If Tom and Tim are both hosting a deathmatch server, what is better about Tom than Tim and vice-versa?

I think some important qualities are flexibility (being able to change things when you must), patience (so you can work with as many people as possible and put up with some degree of annoyance), and reliability (so whenever you're needed, you're there for someone, some people, or something).

1. Not giving admin to ALL of their friends (keeping admins/mods limited) 2. Trying to improve the server on a regular basis 3. A welcoming person who is not hard on others

give admin to people you can really trust.

if i alt-tab out of blockland to load while loading into a server and wait til i hear the spawn noise or any ingame noise, only to alt-tab back in way later to see a rule prompt is preventing me from spawning, the quality of your server is stuff and i hate you

THIS SO MUCH

I am a good server host, the best.  Badspot says it, Ephialtes says it, they all say it.  Trust me.
I made prison escape great again unlike crooked crown!

this is the only quality a server needs. a server can be complete and utter garbage but if it doesnt do this its alright in my books

the only rule you need is "dont be a nerd"

so much easier than having to make an actual list or something

and if anyone does something you dont like they can't say that it's technically not violating the rules or something like that

Taking care of issues on the server; whatever they may be, it's your responsibility to deal with them.

However don't go overboard and act like you're the stuff because you're the host. It's your server but at least be somewhat courteous.

Don't let problematic people continue to be problematic people. If they prove themselves to be a nuisance more than once even after facing initial punishment, permanently ban them until further notice. Saves you a lot of trouble.

Keep track of what's happening on the server whatsoever. Always have an admin to watch your back if you must go afk a moment.

Respect people who joins first time and get rid of starfishs that are here just for provocation or general annoyance
Also use an announcer add-on so you can be heard by everyone.

And finally, be prepared to explain things a lot, and you might repeat yourself a lot of times, you must remain calm though. But I dont think you will have to explain anything for a deathmatch server, it's still good to know.

Brb updating the rules mod to make a sound when you're ready to spawn. I'll also make it so you can read the rules and accept them while still loading.

Edit: I did it. You must now live with a rules mod that beeps at you if you are ready to spawn and have not yet accepted. Also it'll actually kick you now if you click no. Also each rule is presented in it's own dialog, so rules can be much, much, much longer than before. I hope you're happy with the changes!!!!
