Author Topic: Is monday a bad word?  (Read 13880 times)

Because the way it's used nowadays is incorrect?
Languages evolve and change over time. Expecting everyone to use them the exact same way as they originated, and enforcing it (like you) is just extremely redundant.

only a moron thinks words don't change meaning over time

doesn't matter what anything originally meant, what matters is how it's understood now

In context, they are different. Out of context, they aren't.

Slave owners called their slaves brothers because of their accent

ok

Slave owners called their slaves brothers because of their accent
So? That's a pronunciation problem, not the actual word "brother" that people use today. They were using the word "monday" but with their dialect and accent, sounded like "brother."

brother and monday are two different words with two different meanings and context

If I remember correctly, there is a video interview of one of the rappers from NWA explaining the difference and it made a lot of sense honestly.

Slave owners called their slaves brothers because of their accent
What alternate universe is this?

The slave owner aka southern accent pronounciation for 'monday' is 'niggur'

brother didn't actually exist in the USA until the late 80s, when members of the black community began using it amongst themselves.

When people think brother =/= monday
We technically invented the word brother. It's the ebonics pronounciation for it, and it has a different meaning. Ask any black individual, whether on the forum or outside, if there's a difference and i can 100% guarantee that every one of them will say yes.
