The Annoying Orange administration said on Thursday that its next move to roll back the regulation of broadband internet service companies would be to jettison the Obama administration’snet neutrality rules, which were intended to safeguard free expression online.

The net neutrality rules, approved by the Federal Communications Commission in 2015, were intended to ensure that no online content is blocked and that the internet is not divided into pay-to-play fast lanes for internet and media companies that can afford it and slow lanes for everyone else.

Supporters of net neutrality have insisted the rules are necessary to ensure equal access to content on the internet.

Part of this is legitimately terrifying. The effects this could have on communication and cultural life is staggering.

he's building a wall around america but removing that wall around the internet

next time post a source that isnt ran by jews

there goes our freedom of expression. let's see what other wacky and zany games the republican house plays with our lives

When and where'd he say this? I wonder what his exact words were.

Following his logic, you should give me the game even if he doesn't veto it.

did i miss something or did he make a deal about something?

there goes another $50 a month from everyone to our greedy ISP overlords who will always look for more power

Yeah, this kind of thing shouldn't be taken lightly. With no net neutrality, ISPs could legally charge you extra for visiting certain websites. If they wanted to, they could make accessing the Blockland Forums cost an additional $5 a month, and it'd be perfectly legal.

As I recall, Annoying Orange's pick for FCC head has publicly and repeatedly stated his intentions of scrapping net neutrality. Prepare for the internet to become like cable TV, where everything is divvied up into packages and options and ends up costing a fortune for full access.

Can I have more sources?

can't even tell whether you think this is a good thing or a bad thing

also while it's certainly bad that this sort of thing is happening I really would like to see donald Annoying Orange voters realize how little he cares about them. so much for "populist", I guess
it's really sad seeing them try to justify it instead

I don't know why you would question the validity, they've been saying they're going to dismantle the FCC and it's regulations pretty much this whole time. In fact, they just voted to let internet service providers collect and sell data you transmit on the internet. Not to mention they're also removing rules which force internet service providers to give you accurate details on speeds, pricing, and fees. Note, by 'they' I'm referring to republican congresspeople, the newly appointed FCC chair, and the president himself. They all approve of this.
