Author Topic: If you opened a paypal account before you were 18, close it now.  (Read 5802 times)

Managed to close my account through my PC. Goodbye, PayCrap.

can confirm this has actually happened to me got my account closed because I made it several years ago when I was 15, I didn't actually lose any money but my account got put into a permanent locked state, I've since opened a new account under different credentials because its integrated into so much godamn bullstuff

also can we talk about the awful password limitations on my account that is linked to my bank???
max 20 characters, no spaces???

behind the fancy ui scheme paypal is atleast a decade behind the times

PayPal is so necessary in online shopping that I'm probably going to have to use it, but when I do turn 18, I'm making a new account and never putting a dime into it. I'll do what my parents do, and make it take the money straight from my bank account, so if the account does get closed, they're holding no money.

Not sure exactly when I made mine, but it's an absolute necessity for me because many places only accept paypal or a type of credit card that I don't have, leaving me with no choice but paypal. I don't keep any money in it though, it's basically just a surrogate for wire transfers.

Where tho

The only times I send money through paypal is art commissions and con hotel room shares.

Where tho
Well they're not super duper common, a lot of places accept my particular brand of credit card but I remember coming across at least a few different retailers that don't, including one that I actually need to use

most artists use paypal to receive money for commissions
oh ok

aaaaaaand closed. Thanks for the info, Pecon (although I didn't do much with my PayPal anyways).

Wait LIMIT you to 20 characters? Wow.

Thank you for the warning. Closed.

password character limits make me weep for internet security

do you even need more than 20 characters to make a secure password

do you even need more than 20 characters to make a secure password
Some people like to make secure passwords by having multiple words strung together.

For example, "correct battery horse staple" is 28 characters long, extremely easy to remember, and very secure. With an unreasonable character limit you can't do passwords like these.

correct battery horse staple probably isn't very secure anymore, though
