You've gotta consider that there was research into gender dysphoria way before transgender identities became the political issue they are today. There are historical examples of people changing gender, even before gender theory existed.

There are no historical cases of people identifying as a different race for any other reason besides to mislead people. Just because society is moving towards accepting gender identities doesn't mean that we're on some crazy slippery slope where you can become a black guy whenever you want.
