you "wake up" from dreaming, but you feel like you're still asleep. you can see your surroundings, but as soon as you close your eyes again you're dreaming.

this has happened a few times to me recently and it's so surreal. i've also had instances where I would wake up every 5 minutes or so because something scares the stuff out of me in a dream and I can't get it to stop.

anyone else experience these dream anomalies?

I had it happen a few times when I was younger

i just get those dreams where im getting up for work/school but my ass is still in the bed. it sucks

Yes, it's like you open your eyes for a short time but you're still sleeping basicly.

There were very few times that I woke up in the middle of a dream and I sleep again to continue where it stopped.

the other night i thought i was dreaming still after waking up when my vision was just screwing with me

Isn't that sleep paralysis? I get that all the time. It's more likely to happen if you're sleeping on your back, IIRC.

He didn't exactly describe sleep paralysis, sleep paralysis is more like lucid daydreaming without motor function. I'm pretty sure it's caused by a skipped step in normal dream cycles so your body can't move but you are lucid and no longer dreaming.

I think what he's describing is more like half-lucid deep sleep where he has motor function and can therefore open his eyes, but upon closing them again is so tired that he forgets he is dreaming and falls back into standard REM sleep.

you guys ever have one of those dreams like in Futurama when Leela ate that space bee honey and she would think that what she's seeing is reality, but it turns out to be dreams inside dreams?

I had this happen one time and it was legit one of the scariest times in my life. For a week I questioned whether I was dreaming and tried to convince myself it was by throwing myself into a (slow moving) car.

I've had it. Paired with auditory hallucinations. Evacuate now, says the quiet emergency radio thing, get out of your homes, you're in danger.
well played brain

stuff is scary, definitely messes with you for a while. It's the kind of stuff that lead towards philosophers like René Descartes coming up with "Cogito ergo sum" [I think, therefore I am] -- > I can ponder my own existence therefore even if I am asleep and dreaming I know i exist in some form but can never know if my current state of mind is 'reality'

i once had an inception-like dream, i just kept waking up from one dream after the other

I get sleep paralysis on a near-daily basis. Because of the fact it happens so often, it doesn't really bug me. I don't get the visual or auditory hallucinations either so that probably helps.

I've found that trying to shake both your arms and legs as hard as possible is usually enough to wake you up.
