I'm always curious what happened to their crate system
like you're supposed to buy drills, but some of the safes I get I can just open for free

Safes are cycled out of rotation. The current (and future) safes don't require drills (and thus, can be opened for free). Even though you can no longer get the the old, drillable safes as drops, they still sell the drills for said safes for people who still have one or if you buy them from the community market.

no im not a sadist, the early batches of bobbleheads were just really stufftily made and I can't even get the code that I didn't get with it or a refund
