I joined the "official" discord that's trying to steal the flag and so far their plan is literally to break and enter, which is a criminal offense obviously.

Keep in mind that they don't actually know where it is yet, they just have an address where it might be. They want to shine some bright light through the window to try and see the change in lighting in the livestream. But they haven't managed to do it yet.

Even if they do find out where it is, and if it ends up being on a locked/restricted area what are they trying to prove?

I mean sure it might be theoretically possible that it's looping but it's much more complex than just lighting brightness and hue. Shadows get cast in different places and directions, camera focus changes slightly. Stuff like that.
