Author Topic: I'm having serious problems with my dorm room (things get complicated)  (Read 11551 times)

update, I have to wait for three whole loving weeks in order to put in a transfer (that and the people who I've wanted to bunk with will not contact me and I can't contact them)
the room has no air conditioning so there's like 20 fans that are basically as loud as jet engines blowing all the damn time and not only can I not hear anything coming out of my computer but I can't loving sleep soundly at all
I literally had a sleepless night last night and that's bad because I was already having trouble both making it to class on time (my commute to class is 15 minutes uphill forget me in the ass) and paying attention in class and now that's pretty much compounded and I have genuine fears that I'm gonna flunk out of the engineering major
I'm considering going to the end of the week and seeing what happens, and if I can't sleep well enough maybe I would go request a mandatory transfer to an air-conditioned room

problem with that is that requirements like that are for medical purposes only and I'm not sure fan-based insomnia is what they have in mind when it comes to "medical requirements"

does switching out for those reasons have some merit or am I overreacting

please /discuss

uh talk to your parents dude, unless you're paying for this stuff you don't have much weight to throw around you know what I mean

they're willing to pay for a room change, pretty much guaranteed

but I mean tell your parents to talk to the school

but I mean tell your parents to talk to the school

I don't think they're going to be the ones to go to the school and start ranting and raving, I think that's on me

use ear-plugs

that'd be about as uncomfortable as if I just let the fans go, plus I wouldn't be able to hear the alarm in the morning

but what I'm saying is your parents have the leverage, you aint
I mean you should go talk to them yourself too but it's hard to say exactly how seriously the staff will take you

so last night I was able to go to sleep but I woke up feeling achy all over, pretty clear that I still didn't sleep well even though I got eight hours of sleep

I think they'd want their students to succeed in class, and if they can't sleep well because of all the noise that might be probable cause to move them
IDK though, I've heard from my parents that they're very strict but then I've heard other people say that they're pretty understanding

so two of the people I had in mind to possibly bunk with are literally bunking with each other in a freshman dorm because the goddamn loving school decided to "experiment" with housing and in order for them to not end up in cramped triples like me they had to bunk with each other

this is totally forgeted
I'm already planning for next year's housing because of the unmitigated disaster that was this year

plus I wouldn't be able to hear the alarm in the morning
don't think you'd be able to hear it now unless its like a siren

don't think you'd be able to hear it now unless its like a siren

it's a chirping noise that irritates you awake, it's quieter than an alarm clock which is why I use it but I can still hear it over the fans
if I had earplugs in it'd be too difficult to hear, and if I can't hear it I'm not going to get out of bed

if the transfer can't work out, buy a window ac unit if your dorm permits it. those things keep you pretty cool actually and they're not too loud.

they don't permit it
I'm gonna have to move but like I said the transfer stuff doesn't start until three weeks from now and if this trend with sleeping continues I don't know if I can wait that long

the power just went out because everyone was running their fans at the same time

it is ridiculous that a college as prestigious as this has buildings that can just clock out like this

now I'm drowning in sweat and I can't do work on my computer

Colleges don't give a stuff about parents or who paid for the class. You're an adult, all problems are dealt with the student.
