I'm a banking brown townyst so the pay is fantastic but I derive very little fulfillment from my work. My goal is to earn enough to buy 2-3 more investment properties and then once I'm financially independent, move to something more fulfilling.

i look at maps
its alright i guess

I also work in the financial sector, but as a software developer for a company that provides a core system for credit unions to run. As far as fulfillment goes, I don't go home with a warm fuzzy feeling that I've changed a life today. However, the work is interesting and it does really feel like I'm doing something important, even if it is something as simple as adding a field to the database to support federal compliance measures or configuring connections to the credit card network so that people can access their money after their financial institution converts to our system.

Stress is relatively high, but I work well in high stress environments. If it's due tomorrow, I'm definitely gonna work on it today. If it's due next week... ehhh.. it can wait until the day before it's due. But being understaffed is just part about working for a company that's growing really quickly, and I'm glad that I joined when I did. As far as pay goes, I'm a "Developer II" and my pay is in line with national average, so I'll let you do that research if you really care.

Regarding our company culture, I couldn't ask for a better place to work. We act like a real business (unlike Google which is more like day care for ultra-smart adults) but we're also a family.

So, do I like my job? Yeah, I do. I guess I'm pretty lucky that my first job out of highschool w/o a college degree ended up being what it is.

I work front desk at a hotel which can be described as "get shat on by randos off the street" simulator, but it pays $10/hr which is more than I've ever made as a student so its ok.. gotta get that freakin degree though!!

sounds Dope

Due to unforeseen circumstances it's taken longer than I'd have liked to get the job I want, but slow going or not I've done enough of it to know I'm quite fond of the work when it comes to plumbing. It pays quite alright and it's fulfilling work, so it's all a man could hope for.

retweet if youre wondering if ike is actually a loving plumber

Nope! I did a lotta shadowing of a few plumbers to get an idea of what the job was like while I had sent my resume in with the company. I've just been waiting to be hired for quite awhile now because of some unknown factors out of my hands. Shouldn't take too much longer now I was assured, I think it has something to do with the company being bought out and some sorta management shift, dunno

In the meantime I'm making tiny bux off of freelance work

edit: if they keep jerking my chain around tho I'm prolly just gonna apply at an HVAC place. Not as good pay but getting certified in a trade means I can work practically anywhere.

i work in a deli making virtually minimum wage, not very fun but it puts gas in my car so

I broke my little break thing for this post sorry. I just wanted to know your guy's opinion on this.

I worked upfront at the register at a chinese buffet in the mall until somewhat recently. I quit because I found the work really mentally draining standing in a stationary place for 6 hours. I could barely understand my coworkers as all of their english was pretty bad. I'd wake up depressed because I never had any freetime to do anything.

But when I looked at my boss working beside me, the immigrants working in the back, and the girl cleaning the floors,  they all seemed completely fine with the endless hours of working away. I just wonder am I spoiled? was it really that bad for my health? if others can service and do their jobs for hours why can't I just be as tolerating as them?

ok imma logout now and resume my break thing. just had to pour some thoughts.
