It hurt a lot of lesser-known games. It was basically their only chance to have a spotlight. Like, "Hey, this and two other games are the /only/ games to have a 90% sale right now. Look at them, buy them." Where now it's just a sea of sale tags. Most people are just going to go straight to the already popular games that they're too poor to afford at regular price. Or stuff already on their wishlist. Anything mixed (which is honestly too broad of a range, 69.9999999% is mixed.) gets almost entirely ignored unless it's free to play now.

I don't use the Steam version as I caused an error which gave me a new BLID and, I can't seem to reverse it. I use the non-steam version because I can switch keys unlike the steam version. Not to mention, it keeps breaking and resets everything.
