Gameplay
The game is divided into 3 gameplay types: Arcade, Realistic, and Simulator. There are currently 6 nations in the game and hundreds of vehicles.

Arcade: Arcade is the least realistic of all gamemodes, you'll feel right at home here if you love World of Tanks. In this gamemode you will get armor entry markers for tanks and lead indicators for planes. Tanks get a small boost to their power so they are a bit faster. Planes can take more hits before going down.
Realistic: In Realistic battles there are no entry markers or lead indicators, it is up to you to figure out where to shoot your targets.
Simulator: Simulator is the most realistic of gamemodes. Pretty much identical to Realistic except for a few changes. You are locked into roosterpit, commander, and gunner views. Instructor is turned off so you'll have to deal with stuff such as torque when flying a plane. Finally there are no markers for anyone, not even your teammates are marked.

Nations

Planes
American planes are known for their strong firepower but poor maneuverability. American bombers are loaded with defensive weaponry unfortunately however this limits them to lower bombloads than other nations such as the British. When flying the majority of American fighters it is recommended to use boom and zoom tactics.
Tanks
American tanks are a jack of all trades. They are all pretty rounded for their type and aren't really bad at anything but aren't outstanding at either.

Planes
Much like the Americans the Russians love firepower. A lot of Russian planes are armed with cannons allowing them to make quick work, unfortunately they don't come without a lot of ammo so choose when to fire wisely.
Tanks
Russian tanks tend to be a little light on armor (aside from heavies) and rely on their slope to bounce shells. Russian tanks also tend to have a little bit weaker guns than their opponents so you might need to aim for weakspots more often. These tradeoffs however result in Russian tanks being a bit faster than other nations.

Planes
German planes have a good mix between firepower and maneuverability. They prefer boom and zoom tactics but are capable of energy fighting if they are against less maneuverable planes such as American fighters.
Tanks
Firepower is the one word that summarizes Germans tanks. German tanks have a lot of flat armor (at least in low tiers) and are easy to pen but you'll also have a pretty easy time penning everything else and your stock shell for most tanks is enough to one shot or heavily cripple tanks you come across.

Planes
Italian planes are good at energy and turn fighting unfortunately though their guns are all pretty average.

Planes
The British are great energy and turn fighters. The British bombers have the heaviest of bomb loads and can make quick work of bases (sometimes getting 2 bases with 1 bomb load) unfortunately they aren't very well defended and are very easily sent back to hangar if they don't have an escort.
Tanks
British tanks are either heavily armored and slow or light and fast. British tanks mostly have rapid firing guns, unfortunately most of these guns only have solid shot shells which means you'll need multiple shots to kill most enemies.

Planes
Japanese fighters are the kings of turnfighting, unfortunately they lack firepower. Japanese heavy fighters are more maneuverable than other nation's heavy fighters but at the expense of firepower.
Tanks
With shells with the most explosive filler of any tanks the Japanese tanks do massive damage to opponents, that is if you pen.

War Thunder has great underlying mechanics, but the whole P2W and 'upgrade-study-advancement' tree thing ruins it for me. Not only that, but certain factions are demonstrably better/worse than others because of how the plane stats work.

Whenever I play WT, I find myself using the best planes in the earliest tier since it's the only way I can guarantee that I'll have a fun, fair game without having to slog through 10 hours of stuffty handicapped gameplay before my stuff is 'upgraded enough' to compete.

honestly this game is the loving worst

i've had the game since 2013 and i only have 3 tier 5s

the Leopard 1 (Absolute loving garbage now) the P-80, and the F-84

grund forces is still loving awful cause gaijin is handicapped and wont increase rewards so it's painful to grind tier 5

loved the game, really wish it was a one time payment game with an actual achievable progression system. this f2p trash progression model ruins games like this for me

game used to be fun, but now it's just pay-to-win and extremely loving grindy

oh stuff they're adding france

still way less grindy than other large MMOs; can actually achieve endgame w/o money on WT

i have 4 amerijets and i only occasionally play. yet i properly grind on WoT and i only have two tier 7s on there

edit: the real problem w/ wt is balance

There is a Friday the 13th event today which gets you some decals, for whatever reason though you have to pay 13 GE to get access to it

the game used to be way less grindy, but they introduced a "better" tech tree and rebalancing that would """reduce""" grinding.

honestly I may play my Leopard 1 now that they announced its BR change to 7.7

also, I wonder when we're going to be getting the B-36/B-52; those aircraft are no longer outside of the game's time period, considering we have MBTs as well as wire-guided anti tank missiles.

they'll probably add a few more rank 6 tanks before they add rank 6 aircraft

they'll probably add a few more rank 6 tanks before they add rank 6 aircraft
bombing system needs to be redone because a Tu-4 can already destroy 3 bases
If they're gonna add the massive bombers it needs a better system

Alright I'm bumping this cause I'm having a lot of fun with the new French aircraft, especially the early bombers
