Two take away lessons for me here:

One: As this post details, it was already illegal for the shooter to possess a firearm. This should be clear evidence to everyone that simply making things illegal to possess doesn't solve the actual problem.
Pro-gun people want to see these shooting stop too. But all this time spent bickering about banning/restricting guns is just time that could be spent discussing an actual solution.
Two: The shooter was apparently chased off by an armed civilian. If all law-abiding citizens were disarmed, it is probable that the shooter would have been able to kill more people before he was stopped.
