Author Topic: Mass Shooting Megathread | Rancho Tehama, CA | 5 dead, shooter down  (Read 19383 times)

So, my question to those who are pro-gun control: Without looking anything up, based just off of what you know right now, what is it about this one model in specific that leads to so much discussion about banning this one model in specific
spooky scary military gun

it has numbers AND letters in the name
that makes it 2x as dangerous

people do some crazy stuff....

Two take away lessons for me here:
One: As this post details, it was already illegal for the shooter to possess a firearm. This should be clear evidence to everyone that simply making things illegal to possess doesn't solve the actual problem.
Pro-gun people want to see these shooting stop too. But all this time spent bickering about banning/restricting guns is just time that could be spent discussing an actual solution.

Two: The shooter was apparently chased off by an armed civilian. If all law-abiding citizens were disarmed, it is probable that the shooter would have been able to kill more people before he was stopped.

I'm seeing a lot of talk about people wanting to ban AR-15s specifically, which makes me curious:

he was not dishonorably discharged. he was discharged for bad conduct for abusing his wife and child, which means that he could still legally own and acquire firearms.

Kelley was discharged from the Air Force in 2014, according to Defense Department records. Kelley was court-martialed in November 2012 for assaulting his wife and their child. A judge sentenced him with a bad-conduct discharge, 12 months confinement, and two reductions in rank to basic airman, according to an appeals court decision in 2013 that affirmed the decision against Kelley.

I don't get how that's not a dishonorable discharge, but whatever. The guy was stopped by a private citizen with a shotgun. The point still stands that gun control is useless.

it's the only rifle they know about because no one who has ever picked up and fired a gun more than once is in favor of gun control
I've shot at least four different guns that I can specifically remember, several times each, still in favor lmao

welcome to texas

there is a legal difference between a dishonorable discharge and a bad-conduct discharge. the important difference here is that he can still legally purchase firearms. i am not arguing for or against gun control, i am just trying to clear things up.

ah
well some sources are saying dishonorable discharge, some are saying otherwise
so iunno

it's the only rifle they know about because no one who has ever picked up and fired a gun more than once is in favor of gun control
Well, there's a lot of misinformation thrown out there, and a lot of people just not knowing the definition of the words they're using.
But you can't just say "no one"

i don't think you realize that there's a big difference between gun control and a gun ban lol
Like what exactly?
I'm legitimately curious because the only thing i see is "ban this" and "ban that"

I've shot at least four different guns that I can specifically remember, several times each, still in favor lmao
in favor of what exactly?
i mean complete unregulation would be bad imo too

Suspect looks like iban/ichverbot

yet another shooting discussion randomly turned into an argument about gun control. christ how much does it really matter

tell that to all the people on this forum that were complaining about people annoyed by people politicizing the Vegas shooting

evidently police are still unaware of how he died? was it the gun wound or the crash that killed him?
