Extreme lag on GMOD server?

Hi all, recently ive been trying to play on my friends GMOD server but I keep getting extreme lag. Such as when I spawn stuff in it takes up to three minutes to register and makes the game nearly unplayable. The funny part is that I have good connection and a good graphics card as well.

get the server more ram and a faster cpu (not more cores, just a faster cpu/higher clock)
