starbound is alright
there is progression involving the ark place, and you don't need to mine core fragments as they can appear in boxes on the first planet you land on.
but once you've beat the main story, you run out of things to do outside of exploring and repeating the boss areas for secret items.

building mechanics in the game are cool tho.

If the devs had poured more attention into making a sandbox rather then into some weird single player mmo with broken features then maybe It would stand a chance.
