i'm one of the idiots who has badmouthed the game (as coined by the topic's title)
It's amazing how dense some of you can be.
good start. really encourages me to change my opinion of the game that i've formulated over however long i've played this game for
You complain about how the game is dying, yet you do nothing to help it
it's really hard to do this when the community is completely against projects you're making to try to make things easier for them, and in fact has formed troll clans to try to ruin your day.
in one instance when i was hosting my deathmatch gamemode, i had users named bedpost, limerick, and bello join. bello was using some form of a hacked client to gain an unfair advantage, he made his player faster than the other players. bedpost and limerick blamed it on my gamemode, and badmouthed me by saying that i am a bad administrator and never fixes my gamemodes or listens to the users. (this is wrong, i actually encourage people to try to break my gamemodes and/or find bugs so i'll know about them and try to fix them) clearly this was a coordinated attack, as they were working together and it was confirmed somewhere that bello was using a hack. i've never really posted this anywhere because i dont like being involved in drama anymore and consider it one of the worst features in this forum. (i do enjoy reading it as it's simply ridiculous how seriously people take it)
another instance, a user named charles would join my server and do his best to insult my gamemodes without providing any actual criticism, or suggesting ways to improve. it was clear he was just trying to get under my skin. it was at the point where he said, and i quote, "you are not a human being" "i hope this server dies" and promptly left was when i decided to just have him permanently banned from my server. (reason being "no fun allowed" as a joke) i even have photographic proof of this incident to this day if anyone's curious.
i make these large projects for the community of the game that im supposed to love, and all i get back is stuff. this is a primary reason why i dont suggest people to buy the game.
(sorry that this part got a little ranty, i added this segment after most of the others)
or better yet, you go out of your way to make it worse. How do you make it worse? By constantly bitching about how the playerbase is dead and how Badspot doesn't update the game anymore, etc.
my review (as low-ish quality as it is) touches on more stuff than simply "lol the game is dying bro" but you need to understand that these are valid reasons for leaving a bad review. people usually dont want to play an online game that doesn't have much of a community, and one that isn't supported by its developer. (except in extreme cases, such as dealing with the eval exploits)
and never talking about what you love about the game.
i have covered this in my review. i love how open the game is to modding. it's not a horrible experience unlike, say, the binding of isaac afterbirth+'s lua api. even fallout new vegas' modding support isnt quite as extensive as blockland's support is.
The review score on Steam is 68% "Mixed". You wanna know why? Because you dumb stuffs keep posting negative reviews of the game.
did you only realize this just now? an abundance of negative reviews means that the percentage of positive reviews goes down. i'm pretty sure most people who write serious negative reviews know this. and in fact want this.
How many people do we see with hundreds or thousands of hours posting a negative review on Steam because the player count isn't what it used to be?
time goes on, people change, people age, the games themselves change too, etc. there are a lot of games i thought were amazing as a kid, but then as i grew older i noticed some things about the games i played. imagine if someone made a topic like this in some stuffty flash game forum.
Do you really think this helps? Posting negative reviews so the review score goes down, driving away potential buyers?
isn't this the point of a negative recommendation? to warn potential buyers of what they may be buying isn't that great?
(im going to skip a few parts because he literally just rephrased most of the opening paragraph as parts of other paragraphs. if you think i forgot to cover something important tell me)
Obviously posting positive reviews on Steam so the score goes up won't be the thing that "saves Blockland" or whatever, but it's certainly better than talking stuff about it. I already did my part and posted a review on the Steam page and I think you should too. Don't be lazy and just say "it's good" with a thumbs up; put some effort into it. You don't have to write some long post detailing every single thing about the game that you like, either; it can be a simple "I've spent countless hours on this game with my friends, from building ships to..." etc. etc. Just a quick recommendation for people to see. (I mean if you like writing long reviews you can do that too, obviously).
this is probably the best part of this topic, i do agree with getting people to post reviews. it doesnt have to be an essay, but shouldnt really be a two liner.
in conclusion, you really shouldn't generalize about who posts negative reviews to this extreme. there are special cases, a lot of them i feel well deserved. let people go. the game is on its last legs as it is. stop trying to berate/antagonize us like this.
im sorry, this topic got my blood pumping a bit and im probably going to regret posting this later. i do still enjoy the game but i really, really hate what it has become, especially the community. there's a reason i dont post as much anymore.
