If you were in charge of the next Blockland Update topic, what would you add?

Author Topic: If you were in charge of the next Blockland Update topic, what would you add?  (Read 7013 times)

Let's say Badspot give you the opportunity (let's say that you got the programming knowledge to do it too) and you're in charge of the next update, what would it be like? Regardless of the Torque engine limitations.

Mine would be the following:

2018/04/15 - Blockland r1989

- Got the source files of the Blockhead model again, with this the character now has a lot more customization options, from clothing to accessories.
- Added extra soft shadow shader options as default.
- Improvements on vehicle physics, raycasting and efficiency of anything physics related in both single and multiplayer.
- Editor Tool, allowing you to choose a chunk of the build and move it around freely, also giving the whole selection the events you want in one go.
- Stereo support, after a long time fiddling with the possibility, it's now possible to import music files in stereo and high quality.
- Extended the Tutorial Gamemode to add more useful explanations on different aspects of the game.

add 15 billion image slots

ummm readd terrain and interiors  with shaders aand shadows

More hats, decals, and a new tutorial at the main menu page.

unban everyone

mass hysteria

- Large assets are now uploaded to the CDN, significantly reducing loading times for newer players.
- Faces and decals now transmit between clients into a cache, the code relating to ifl files now also gets faces and decals from this cache folder. This is disabled by default.
- Increased image slots to 8.
- Fixed ShapeBase::getSlotTransform to not be limited by image slots, as they relate to mount points and not image slots.
- Added more player functions:
setMass, setRunForce, setJumpForce, setGravity, crouch, jump, jet, lookAtPos/Obj, and fixed setting underwater speeds.
(crouch, jump, and jet have two args. first one to set the state, second one is a flag to lock the player into that state)
- Improved a lot of the default code to accommodate for non default assets, like applyBodyParts/Colors. (see documentation here: -link-)
- Get ready, because in the next update... Blockland adventure mode DLC for only $29.99!

More customization options, plus the ability to add custom models for each part which only work if the other players also have them, similar to decals. Would prevent griefing by making the model something really obnoxious and then joining other servers.

Custom loading screen images, more sound options, the ability to do clientsided scripting from the server (so guis and such will work even if the client doesn't have it downloaded, perhaps via a client .zip file that prompts the player to be downloaded/automatically applied before joining)

^^ Make it so servers can actually send clients all the files needed, so things like custom textures on a playertype will work correctly

Fix vehicle physics but give the option to set them back

Update the OpenAL file because it's literally just a matter of replacing the old file and suddenly all sounds are higher quality and none of them earrape you

An easier way to create addons by making it so script updates are detected and changed as you're testing, even if you're changing crucial parts of certain datablocks.

Find ways to potentially optimize shaders, as well as implement other post-processing options that can be messed with via the environment, such as godrays, lens flares, color correction and more.

Implement a system like Blockland Glass as a default thing.

Raise the download speed limit.

Add a way to tell when a sound starts, ends, and loops, so you can do things like incremental music smoothly.

Fix the tick system as best as possible so lag won't forget everything's timing up. ... If possible.

i'd update the launcher to fix the loving runtime errors

make .oggs work from zips so people can compress their sounds without losing quality so people don't have to download about a million megabytes of .wavs

please port phantom forces to blockland

- Advanced graphics options available to finetune shadows, etc. to what you want, and a basic quality lever for those who aren't graphics nerds
- Atmospheric Light Scattering
- UI theme switcher
- Fancy brick effects
- Bricks can be made in any color with any transparency instead of being limited
- Dynamic light adjustment of brightness and color (Philips Hue tier)
- Spotlights, Area Lights
- Remove certain limits for particles and other FX
- Yellowstone Supereruption Gamemode to show off above FX
- Compressed saves
- Physics optimization for large physics events (> 300 bricks)
- No more farlands; you can build far far away now
- Render distance limit increased 10x
- Even faster packets/download speeds
- More default bricks; 'essential' add-ons are included as default
- More default saves
- Saving a servers bricks doesn't block you from playing (done in the background)

- Projectile speedlimits are a thing of the past
- Fix jump glitch/exploit and noclipping
