I dont get it. How can someone you barely know label you with a mental illnes. The only one who knows you is you yourself.
I honestly cant see how a few questions can diagnose someone. I mean everyone in one point of their live has felt empty or has had a loss in appetite or some stuff?

iirc it has to do with brain activity in certain areas, if you get a CT (or MRI cant remember) they can see what an issue is and tell if you have depression. another thing they could do is test your blood for chemicals like dopamine and if its substantially low you could possibly have depression.

Why do you ask, do you have/have you been diagnosed with depression?

A phsycyatrist can also diagnose you just by talking to you. It basically goes along the line of
"Are you depressed"
"Yes"
"You have depression"

Most people I know say I shouldnt be so negative/depressive but thats how I've been for the past 4-6 or so years so I its a normal thing for me. Ive been thinking of getting tested but I simply don't believe a psychiatrist can get me diagnosed with a few questions. I guess measuring dopamine is a great way since its actually scientific but then again I haven't felt excited for something in these same 4-6 years. Maybe because I actually am depressed 🤔

I actually got a dopamine tat because I believe I have a lack of it. Altho 25% of the reason I got it in the first place was because I think it looks cool.

the way i see it, depression is so "easily" diagnosed because it's very common and has clear, definable symptoms (loss of appetite, sleep, emotion, etc.). Whereas something more complex and rare like schizophrenia takes much longer to recognize and diagnose.

also, "the only one who knows you is yourself" is also debatable, you may think you know yourself but you're only scratching the surface.

because they are mentally scarred from a traumatic incident and affects their mood negatively for the rest of their timespam

Depression isn't just "feeling down", there are real medical effects that can be diagnosed. Is normally diagnosed after long term effects get noticed, but I do know that some doctors jump the gun and diagnose too quickly.

It's kind of the fallacy of doctors: they would rather give somebody an answer than admit to not knowing for sure.

when i was doing therapy to diagnose gender dysphoria i had to do a test of like 2.5 hours about how you feel
from that result and the therapy i got my diagnoses "officially". (monthly visit for a year btw, thats telling a person compressed tons of sad bullstuff youd only tell close friends for an hour, so therapists usually get to know you pretty well)
