The official Halo: Online was shut down because it wasn't profitable for Microsoft to fund a free to play video game (with useless microtransactions. the p2w weapons don't make a difference whether you're good at the game or not) that's only available in Russia.

abandonware is not a legal thing. pirating "abandonware" is still illegal for as long as the copyright on it is valid

The game is a free to play game, so it's not being pirated. It's not being modified by the user because it's a third party distributing the modified version of the game.
So users are not at fault for playing this whatsoever.

well, it is. you still have to download the game in order to modify it. the website for it doesn't even seem to exist anymore, so needless to say, they no longer provide a download. downloading it from anywhere else is definitely piracy, even if the game was free to play

I seriously doubt badspot cares, because this would certainly qualify as "abandonware" to most people, but downloading this game is, technically, piracy
