[JOURNALISM] fortnite a game from 2017 beats RDR2 and wins GOTY 2018

Seeing as how Fortnight's been top of the list for the whole year of 2018 and RDR2 has been out for 1.5 months, if definitely deserves to be game of the year.

So games released in 2017 can become game of the year in 2018 now?

Guess it can be game of the year in 2019 too.

like it or not, fortnite hit it with the casual gamer/non-gamer crowd as well as pretty much every kid in existence, so its hard to beat that kind of playerbase

This is why awards shouldn't be up to votes.

Buncha 12 year olds voted for Fortnite I bet, too young for RDR2.

red dead wont even consider getting my vote until it comes out on pc

The game awards were already selecting games from last December because they would have been released after the awards event has ended, or have only just then gained enough of a following to be considered for an award, so maybe they're widening the timeframe to give games from the previous year more of a chance

Or maybe Fortnite gets a free pass because of the absolute massive playerbase it's amassed in such a small timespan

isnt this award given based on online votes?

since when does the majority know what a good game is lol.

Fortnite/Initial release date

Exactly by this logic then CoD would win GOTY every loving year.

Which is why i said

Defeats the whole purpose of "Game of the year" then.

Then literally any game can be game of that current year, even loving battletoads from 1991

nobody cares that much there's a new one next year and dont worry tony fortnite wont win that one

But fortnite officially comes out of beta in 2019 so it could win in 2019 lol

Not in the least, going back to last year is not going back a decade

It's game of the loving year, not game of last year.
