n a surprising turn of events, Fortnite beat out the likes of God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Marvel's Spider-Man at this year's Golden Joystick Awards. Though the game has been a whirlwind in the community, it is still a shock to see it beat out such tough contenders despite its accessibility.

Here are the nominees that Epic Games' online title beat out for this year's "Ultimate Game of the Year" award:

    Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
    Celeste
    Dead Cells
Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age
    Fortnite Battle Royale
    Forza Horizon 4
    God of War
    Into The Breach
    Marvel’s Spider-Man
    Monster Hunter: World
    Red Dead Redemption 2
    Subnautica

I call rigged.

fortnite came out in 2017 too even lol

People are pissed, fortnite isn't even form 2018

Isn't game of the year supposed to be for games that are from said year?

fortnite exploded in the first few months of 2018 so they deserve to win this year. it just wouldnt be fair if they didnt.
next year's awards are going to be more interesting i assume

fortnite: that game where you build stuff

loving Fortnite over Monster Hunter? Eat stuff

The game didn't even loving come out in 2018, it came out in July of 2017

forget Fortnite, thinking it wins GOTY over RDR2 and stuff

it was inevitable

not everyone can get rd2 but certainly everyone has played fortnite at some point

battle royale games do not deserve to be game of the year honestly
