Author Topic: are flu and flew pronounced differently  (Read 145 times)

asking for a friend (he thinks flew is pronounced "floow" even though the w adds nothing)

"flu' is more like 'floo', while "flew" may have a bit more of an emphasis on the 'e', but they may as well be the same for how subtle the difference is

english is unnecessarily complicated

ahh i see, so when he says flew he kinda says "flew-wuh" but he makes the wuh really subtle

the w wouldnt even make a wuh sound, it would just continue the oo for a quarter of a second

I pronounce "Flu" like fl-oo, and "Flew" like fl-ew
