It's not him using "ironic cringe humor", it's him pointing out their hypocrisy, and more to the point what they really stand against. Identity politics is a means to an end with them, they really want absolute political obedience.
Him pointing out he's gay and Asian is refuting their identity politics as nothing more than a facade. It's bullstuff they themselves don't even believe in, but they push it on others to inspire obedience and the idea of wrong think.
