Anybody playing older games recently? I just beat King's Field 94 and it's actually really fun. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kk4H65eFcUI skip around it's not a great gameplay video)

If you haven't played it I actually recommend it. I think I kinda like it more than Doom, though that's up next for a replay.

Also just ran through the remaster of Quake 1, bummed they reworked the bhop but it was still fun to play through.

I recently modded a SNES Classic Mini Console, installed retro-arch and a number of emulators on it. there is a branch of scummVM core that runs on retro-arch so I've been experimenting around with a number of old PC games on the system - they run fine after some adjustments to audio settings to stop crackling but I still can't figure out how to get games for this specific core to save.

ive been working on making a whole retro gaming setup as of late, all of my pre-hdmi consoles now go through a retrotink upscaler and stuff looks good on the 4k tv i have everything connected to. the setup covers everything from ps1/n64 to xbone/ps4/wii u, its pretty awesome

I got a similar product for my soft-modded PS2, they really do a great job at improving the picture quality on newer TVs/monitors

i always reopen my PS2 for some Mortal Kombat Armageddon (2006) and Twisted Metal 4 (1999). idk if late 90s/mid 2000s count as "retro" but they do take me back

Armageddon was the original "EVERYONE IS HERE!" I just wish that they would've continued with that plotline instead of using Blaze as an excuse to go back in time.

Armageddon was good but as far as Mortal Kombat on PS2, my favorite was Shaolon Monks. amazingly fun couch co-op adventure. I still remember back when I first discovered the game on a ps2 demo disk all the fatalities were censored lol.

Twisted Metal 4, now that is a game I have played hundreds of times throughout the years. A bona fide classic! My brother and I still play that game every once in a while when we are hanging out on the weekends, though sometimes we opt to play Crash Bash instead.

yea i love replaying this with my brother and dad. if only there was an online version of this. i could imagine someone potentially making an online version, similar to how people made smash melee online. i would love to know how people do this, but you probably gotta be a giga coder

seems you can use netplay on ePSXe for this, although I haven't tested online functionality for this particular emulator so I'm unsure of how well it works. maybe give it a try?

On the topic of online play old games and playing them online:

https://www.teamxlink.co.uk/ - You boot this on your computer, plug your xbox into your router and you're good to go. I played Halo 2 online and you would just boot the game and pick a game to join.

https://thearchstones.com/ - Private server for Demon Souls. can be played with either a PS3 or a PC. Demon souls is playable at 60FPS on PC with the emulator RPCS3. Allows you to change your world tendency as you want.

Both of these don't have a huge number of players.

boomer question but have you downloading this yourself? kinda worried about potential viruses

another question is where to find a playstation to PC adaptor. search results just givin me chords that connect PC to the playstation itself. wondering if there's like an playstation equivalent to the mayflash gamecube controller PC adaptor

I think Retroarch has a way to do this and personally I'd go through them if it's actually possible. I swear I've seen a choice for it Yeah there's an entire option for netplay on retroarch, should have mentioned this earlier but when I looked I missed it.

I played King's Field with retroarch and it worked perfectly.

there is now a replacement server for original xbox live called insignia, granted you do need to mod your xbox to use it but it supports a fairly large number of games and they are currently focusing on getting halo 2 up and running (matchmaking already works they just need to finish implementing the playlists and the team system). ive used kai before but ive always found it kind of jank so it will be great when h2 is supported

update: insignia just put halo 2 online, its pretty wild to see the og xbox version of the game getting a lot more attention now

dang i remember trying to use Xlink kai back in like, 2012 to play Monster Hunter Freedom Unite online without a PS3. Crazy that it's still around today

I played through Armored Core and Project Phantasma a couple of years ago. VI got leaked nearly a year before its official announcement and I was planning on going through the entire series before its release. I didn't actually do it, and I only ever did the good ending for VI, but I'll get around to all of it eventually.
