Author Topic: Shoutout to .gov  (Read 4236 times)

Hopefully they last forever. I don't know about you guys but the .gov websites I visit are usually a breath of fresh air.

https://www.weather.gov/

I love this website so much. My state websites are a little dated looking but always provide really concise information.

what is your fascination with this stuff? you have posted multiple threads about weather patterns, this thread about .gov sites, a thread about a website hosting public livestreamed street cameras from all over the world.......

gov't livestream core

what a niche lol

I respect it but I need to tell you that my state's websites for health insurance, student financial aid and the court are some of the worst stuff I've seen.

Damn I feel called out lmao

I like how janky the sites are sort of but once you figure them out they have a lot of cool information. I usually get drunkenly passionate about something related to my state and do research on whatever I'm thinking about.

Recently I found one of my states website has a break down of all the endangered animals and where you can find them with PDFs of details about them. I was thinking it would be fun to go play IRL Pokemon. (no not actually catch them) I want to go wander around and see if I can find any.

Registry of deeds is also fun

not a .gov but its fun to go on govdeals.com and look at all the insane niche equipment you can get. like forget it let me buy a mobile MRI van

Damn I feel called out lmao
lol no hate or anything i dig it. i really liked the street cam site. this is a weird one but i did some contract work for the gov't once and i used to find the weirdest stuff. there are sites like www.preferred411.com that are really popular prostitution networks. the FBI has an entry about it and the language they use to skirt the law. its site used to look pretty jank but they've updated it recently. i was going through a guys device once and found emails where he was supposedly doing business with a line of hotels, and it was advertised in the email like an actual legit brand, but you'd go to the hotel website and it was only one page with like, one picture of a hotel lobby and a contact box.

i'll need to see if i can find the link for that again cause it was obviously some shady stuff. i reeeally wanted to know more lol

EDIT: also this one just clicked to me, but websites that have been seized by the FBI are pretty freaky. its just an image and no harm comes from visiting or anything, but ive only ever seen this in images. not on an actual domain
