Burnice and Kenko were their PR (among other things), now it's just Sixmorphugus who made a very unsatisfactory response that only tried to "embellish" the truth by saying instead that Burnice's "contract expired"

I want to address what's been posted recently, once, but with a bit more detail than I did in the tester discord the other day, and then get back to work.

Burnice's contract with Brickadia ended on April 23rd. I want to be clear that this decision was based on many factors, including the working relationship and contract performance over an extended period, as well as our future needs. It was not retaliation for raising concerns. It followed conversations over a period of months, and an incident that caused a total breakdown in inter-team relationships. In the end I made the call, and I stand by it.

I have committed to staying professional here and unfortunately that means I can explain very little. I can't share the specifics of a former contractor's work publicly, as that wouldn't be appropriate regardless of the circumstances. I'm not going to be able to publicly relitigate specific arguments or private conversations. It wouldn't be fair to anyone involved, including Burnice, and it wouldn't settle anything. I cannot assign any blame. What I can do is apologise.

I understand some people who have followed this closely will disagree with how it was handled, and some may choose to step away from the project or this community. I'm sorry for the pain this has caused on all sides. I'm sorry I let this breakdown boil over. I am sorry to Burnice and Zeblote for the historical cases last year where mediation wasn't persued to the extent that it should have been, and for how suddenly her dismissal came, and I am sorry also to both for the times that I failed to acknowledge attempts to meet others halfway and a desire to focus on the project.

Lastly, I don't accept the characterization that's been put forward of this team or of Zeblote. Some of the reviews and allegations coming out are of things that simply never happened, or that oversimplify complicated situations where everyone to some extent behaved poorly. I don't think they hold up against who actually works here and how we've operated for the most part. Internal disagreements about communication style, tone, and how conflict should be handled have absolutely existed. We own our share of those, and none of us have handled every moment well. But those issues being raised were not why this contract ended. Most importantly of all, we want our values to reflect that of the community. This community is inclusive to marginalized groups, and we remain committed to ensuring it stays a space where all people feel safe, respected, and able to participate. Nothing will ever change that. Bigotry of any kind has no place here.

Our focus from here is shipping the game. We're going to try and still have EA3 out on time. Please give us time and patience. I know there were very strong feelings the day all of this happened, but I need to express that everyone involved now just wants to move on.

I just want people to understand there's people who care about this community and I love everyone here and it hurts to see it like this. Zeb is definitely very blunt and abrasive at times but I don't think he's bigoted, I don't believe I could work with anyone who is actually tribal or sensible at all. I tried really, REALLY hard to keep the team together because I love working on this game with everyone, I just want people to know so many tears were shed and everyone deserves some grace. it didn't end in any way I wanted it to and it's not black and white. I'm still processing it but _everyone and I mean everyone_ involved wants to move on. I hope me saying this puts more weight on it that it because I care about what happened to Burnice and it really shouldn't have went down like it did. bad things did happen, but mostly in just how conflicts were handled and how burnice got fired. Zeb has also been in and out of the hospital since January so PLEASE everyone just... be kind to each other.

imo zeblote needs to be removed and the leadership needs to change. sixmorph should not be lead when he remains supportive of zeb and the team has repeatedly failed at pr issues and made decisions that are harming the game (such as the faux professionalism and i know the topic has been beat to death but the stance on mod support which people have been concerned with since all the way back in 2018). while the claims of zeb being bigoted and the termination letter being ai-generated are contested by other devs there is still an overwhelming consensus that he is abrasive/unpleasant to work with and i don’t think a statement from him is going to change that.
