Author Topic: Hiding posts by bot accounts  (Read 2028 times)

So recently there has been an influx of spam bots on these forums, and a nifty feature I discovered SMF has built in is the ability to hide posts from these bots. Strangely though you don't do it from the poster you want to hide.
If you go to your own profile, then at the top select modify profile then follow the menu down to Buddies/Ignore List, then select edit ignore list. Conveniently as you type in names it automatically suggests the full name so you dont have to worry about any special characters in the name.

While this doesnt prevent spam topics showing up, it does let you read a thread more continuously without annoying chat-gpt generated content from russian toll farms, and makes it much easier to hold conversations.

this is very useful information thanks

Who you calling an NPC here? The 100k bots can't even post.

You're the NPC bro. You want an echo chamber.

It still shows my comments it just has a little button that asks you if you want to unhide my message to read it.

what's the point in blocking me then because YOU KNOW you're going to click on the unhide button because you have TDS and you NEED to KNOW what I'm saying at all times

If you don't want me posting so bad then go make your own dedicated discord where I'm not allowed lol

where are these supposed bot topics / posts? i see nothing out of the ordinary

this is very useful information thanks
np, I wish i had figured this out sooner, i had seen someone else post that they had found this setting so i decided to dig around to see if i could find it

the tricky thing though is that this doesnt quite help finding threads through the five or so ai slop topics that are created every day

yeah i dont know it started a few weeks ago, kinda weird how they got through the blockland key filter, but badspot hasnt been on since he banned that person for posting illegal images so i dont know if he is aware of the forum glitching right now

Are you referring to these threads by chance?

I keep seeing them for some reason. Not sure if it's an smf bug. I see some open threads too but I can't click them.

those damn russian troll farms

im actually surprised more people didn't know about this, i've been using it for years

It's so strange how all the bots talk about my little pony. maybe they were trained on the MLP megathread

enjoy your leftoid political echo chamber then

kinda weird you're turning the forums into reddit
