Author Topic: Something needs to be done about the Add-On system  (Read 2261 times)

RTB 2.0 in-game downloader will fix this pretty much. So long as the person that makes it doesn't package it like an idiot. And if he does you just put down his rating, so you can pretty much tell what is ice cream and what might be worth downloading. Either with or without the idiot makers, it'll make less downloads needed, because every mod will only have 1 folder structure, so you wont have to download add-ons/shapes/green.png and add-ons/green.png.

Also, Ryan, I did your face request.

Well, only Add-Ons in the "Add-Ons" folder (no subfolders) can be registered.  So v9 will fix this on its own and RTB will just make it easier to get new Add-Ons and keep your current ones up-to-date.

*clap clap* WooHoo! Another mature being on the board! :D I'm getting tired of noobs like ademo. Thanks for joining Ryan.

Haha thanks for the compliments guys; much appreciated!

This RTB 2.0 sounds pretty good, and it should keep things in line and prevent things like that Halo add-on from happening.

That reminds me: will there be anything improving server load? For instance, I'm sure people would like music longer than 30 second loops.

nope.

v9 will fix it, not rtb.

rtb is just a in game downloader

v9 makes it so you can add zip's to the add ons folder

You are 12; get over yourself.

Get over myself? The hell does that mean? I was simply stating that you were too stupid to use the SEARCH feature to find a solution to the problem.

I don't even have to argue with that post, since you clearly stated your incompetence on your own. Obviously, you haven't used the SEARCH feature either. If you did, you would know that doing a general search for "add-on system" brings up topics of questions of how to put mods in the add-ons folder, or topics showing off mods.

Clicking through a few pages would help, but whatever. I admit defeat.

Mostly because arguing, while fun, is uncomfortable.

Truce?

Yo guys. RyanThunder here.

I post today with a complaint of Blockland. You see, I'm really starting to get tired of having to load a dozen different add-ons for almost everyone's server. I don't understand why people don't simply put their mods into the Add-Ons folder and be done with it. For example:

C:\Program Files\Blockland\Add-Ons\Add-Ons\Add-Ons\shapes

Alright, we get it. You want you want your mod in the ADD-ONS folder.

C:\Program Files\Blockland\Add-Ons\hoverboard\blockland\Add-Ons\shapes\-=REDco=-\hov

A hoverboard...again? I already have this mod in another folder! Besides, that's way too many folders anyway.

C:\Program Files\Blockland\Add-Ons\CI\a\d\d\o\n\s\blocklands\HALOS\HALO CHEIF\R WINRAR\MM CAKE\HOW I INSTALL ADD-ON\f\u\c\k\

What the hell is this crap? Grow up.

Can you guys see what I mean here? This is just ridiculous. My point is, there should be a separate tool for Blockland that installs the Add-Ons for you, so that filepaths like the ones above cease to exist.

This clunky Add-On system is my one and only complaint of this game. Anyway, that's what I suggest on how this should be fixed.

i was just thinking about how it would be very nice, if there was a web page where  you can download add-ons, that self extract themselves to the right folders for you.

The thing about making self extracting mods is that not many people know how.
