Author Topic: Combined Servers  (Read 1344 times)

Take Bisjak's Problem. Too many brick, so what to do? Well, here's my Idea. We use a sort of graph paper (lots and lots of little squares). at first, there is one server. Then, as the server hits a high number of bricks (about 5,000 per square, each square is about a 32x32, or it gets close to the limit) it "grabs" onto another server and splits the server in half. Every 5 minutes or so A picture is taken on the side og the square's that bordering onto the second server. The picture is then put onto the other server, allowing you to see where your going. Touch that picture, and your teleported on the other server. and this would contue on and on and on...

No...just no...

Why no? It could be helpful in places like RoB or Huge cities!

I think you forgot about loading times.

A slight problem. I believe (someone would have to make it act this way)that there may be a one second wait to connect to the new one, but not objects or Datablocks, as you've already loaded them (also, it takes 2 seconds to load objects. that's quite fast.

Who would bother doing this?

sounds like super mario 64 when you jump into pictures

Or myst, when you jump into books! TIf this Idea was modified to allow you to place portals to other maps wherever you like, then we could bring Myst into blockland! Oh joy!

Even if the servers were completely identical to each other (except for 1/2 of the build), the client would have to load all those bricks each time he changed servers. The only way I could see this working is if the builds were some distance from each other, like a long road between two cities. But if you're going to have two separate cities, why bridge the servers together like that? And if you did this, wouldn't people from one server to the next be unable to talk to each other? While this may work in some mmorpg's, it doesn't sound like it would be worth it in blockland.

On the other hand, I see the reason you would want something like this, because then you could have massive cities linked together for accessibility. Bottom line, the only way I see this happening is if someone with the source code (Badspot) of Blockland spends a great deal of time getting it to work.

War of the servers much?

I'd do it.  :D
