I didn't look it up, but a family man would actually be someone who is afraid of the same thing. Because homo doesn't mean gay, it mean same. So it would be the fear of the same.

"Homo" means man, but is commonly referred to as 'gay'. Therefore, common belief would determine "homo-phobic" as "afraid of gays."
