Well...Blockland costs less than Roblox if you consider that for the later you have to pay $5 a month for any of the decent features of the game, where as blockland is a just a one time fee of $20.

So, after 4 months of "builders club" membership you may as well have bought Blockland.

You can play online and by yourself in Blockland, too. You could start an internet server with a password on it, or just play in a single player game. The demo doesen't have online passworded servers of course.

Stop whining. When you play free ROBLOX, you are more restricted than a slave. You have to actually pay $5 a month to get unlimited access to build as much as you want. Read this: (Thanks to Reactor Worker for pointing this out :D )
IF YOU SPENT 8 MONTHS PAYING $5 EACH MONTH FOR BUILDERS CLUB, YOU COULD BUY TWO BLOCKLAND KEYS. Once you buy those keys they're yours forever until you decide not to play anymore/ask for a refund from Badspot.

Asking why Blockland isn't free for unlimited play is like asking why do retail game developers like EALA, Bungie and THQ not sell their game for free when those companies had to pay employees and buy engine source codes (maybe or maybe not), as is asking why Blockland isn't free when Badspot bought engine source codes from Torque, spent about 3 years making a game, managing a community and facing personal problems (possibly). Don't you think if YOU made a game that you had probably paid over $500 for you'd want to make money off of it unless you already had a job? Notice the last part, unless you already had a job. Badspot's Job = Making Blockland and working for Garage Games. He MADE Blockland to earn money, because thats HIS JOB.

Now, on the other hand, David (The creator of ROBLOX), already has a job in some computing marketing or whatever. He decided to make ROBLOX one day because he was bored. Since he already has a job, he could use a little extra money. So David started the BUILDERS CLUB, where you pay $5 PER MONTH for unlimited building power.

I think most of you have the wrong idea. He isn't asking why games in general cost money, he's comparing Blockland to Roblox.
