Author Topic: Blockland Add-On Site  (Read 6873 times)

Hi everyone,

I'm a bit sad because I thought of a great website to make, but after speaking with Trader v9 will have its own in-game download and mod manager, thus making my website pointless. Anyway let me rewind...

I have noticed that many users have been uploading to other websites ever since bjwaymods was closed. This is nice, but I was thinking about something else... and I made this:

http://blockland.thermomods.com/

It was going to be a website where users could upload a screenshot, the author name, and version. The date would also be added to the upload. The uploads would be managed by MySQL and the pages would be dynamically generated using PHP. Once a file has been uploaded their file would be shown immediately in a nice blockland style theme.

Anyway this site is now pointless but If members think they could still use the site for at least a little, I will finish work on it. Let me know what you think. bye!

UPDATE

Site is up and running. let me know about any bugs or suggestions to improve it.
http://www.blockland.thermomods.com/

I'm not sure how many people will use this site, but making it has been fun and educational.

Actually, its a feature in RTB.

I've already made us an online system to manage and submit files which can be seen in the RTB Thread in the Modification Discussion forum.

I saw, I already knew about it. I just hate downloading from other sites..
I figure that 1) the files will have a dedicated host 2) people can go to one place to get all the mods they want and finally 3) it looks nice and blends in well to the bl feel.

I also knew what you were doing in-game which didn't bother me until now, realizing that it was closer than I had anticipated. You are a great member in this community and I respect you. I mean all im trying to do myself is improve some things.

I don't see what advantages your proposed idea could have over our already implemented idea. We are a dedicated host for files with a lot of bandwidth and a lot of filespace. It also looks nice.

the majority of the files i download are not linked to your site...

Because RTB2 is being released with v9.

I know, sorry but this is just turning into something pointless. I have decided to continue making the site. Maybe it will be put to use, maybe not. I am however enjoying the process of making it, and that is worth more to my than if it put to use.

Garry Newman has about three different websites for GMod. You wouldn't mind advertising Blockland Videos would you?

Because RTB2 is being released with v9.
Which at this point isn't coming out any time soon. I think by the time some one makes some thing for V8 and has it running for a few months it'll be used for a while before V9. I mean you keep saying RTB2 for V9 but what about us now, we can't just sit around waiting for V9 because V9 has RTB2.

I think this site has potential.....to become the n00b add-on site.  All add-ons (or at least the first few from a person) will be tested by the RTB staff to make sure that they're of quality, I bet this site could be were the people who get mad at RTB put their over powered crappy model guns.

Do you KNOW or are you making up Bullstuff.

Haha! No need to steal my idea, located ideally at http://www.blockland.org.

Possibly lurk a bit more before spending your time building something like this? From all I see now, it's just an HTML page with links to the default <a href '#'>. Before releasing, you might actually want to make it functional?

thats all i could release atm because I wasn't sure how far I was going to take this project. I have 90% of the site complete and the rest now is a little php programing, which if you knew anything about me, takes under an hour for this type of work.

Meh, w00t.....random comment.
