Sorry about this short update, next one will take us into late fall:

Taking my first breath of summer air, I entered our mining shaft once again. As usual, my pick struck rock, but this time it was no ordinary rock. Obsideon. We had finally discovered the magma pipe! It only took a staircase to find a vast reserve of lava. I had heard stories of the mama and even of firebreathing monsters living in the magma. Once one touches even a small puddle they will have their fates sealed.

I then took a look at a page the bookkeeper left in his office, I am feeling good about our future.

Around the fortress we have undergone many projects, the one I am involved in is a channel of lava, which will take us into the next year. Others include a road, the trade depot, and a great meeting hall.

Progress continues..

What are the current denizens in the magma?

If it's just imps then that's not as bad, but fire men can destroy constructs. Either way, the denizens might become a problem unless they're wiped out/sealed off.

UM? dwarf fortress is uhh.....is it fun?  like what kind of game is it

Go to the games thread, it should be on page two or three.

It's kinda hard to put DF in a genre... you're basically the leader of a team of dwarves, and you have to make a fort to protect them and make goods, food, etc.

It's considered a sandbox game, I believe.

It still confuses me.

I would rather play with petrol and matches then play that.

I can host a blog for you guys :D

I'd rather mess with booze and lava  :cookieMonster:

Anyways.

so its like a defend your castle that you built and make goodies inside the castle and protect it?

No, it is like the very awsomeness of all fanticy in a game that manages to weild its power as a mighty hamer.

The hot summer days keep dragging on. We are having the farmer pick plants outside of our fortress grounds, yeilding ten prickle berries, four longland grass, and a stack of four hide root. This makes our grand total of plants sixty-seven with fourty-eight plump helmets. We are, however, running short on wine, I fret that there will be none left at the end of this year. I cannot bear the thought of it. I have been tired of drinking the same old booze lately as is.

My fellow miner told me that he struck aluminum earlier. It really is too bad it is on the other side of the lava channel, I might order the mason to make a bridge there.

In the past, at the mountainhome, I ran into this good fellow who was attacked by a cougar, never was the same again, he wasn't. I am frightened even by engravings of the monsters. I hope they do not stray too close.

Suddenly, almost out of nowhere, I was caught in a cave-in. I do not remember much besides the crumbling noise, but I am told that it knocked me unconcious and broke my right upper arm and wounded my other arm pretty badly. Thankfully, I didn't fall into the channel I was working on, my injuries could have been far more serious. I am afraid that I will be out of service for a while, leaving only my comrade to the mining work.

Meanwhile, the bowyer has been acting as the architect, working on the road. Progress is quick.

It is Autumn, let's check our stocks.

We are all out of wine. I am not happy. This is a problem.

He's injured... wouldn't he drink water anyways?  :cookieMonster:

Might wanna get defense up at least a little bit.

First thing I will be doing is getting our stocks high up there, then I will be getting defense up by an insane amount.

Gonna wall off a lot of outside areas around our fortress so we can still access them during an attack.

Also, what animals do we have? I plan to create a breeding program(buncha animals in a pit + butcher) so we can get a steady supply of meats.

Do you not see the moat and the bridge? The only threat at the moment is the cougar. I'm also working on an outside lava moat. The layout is perfectly fitted for marksdwarves.

We have dogs and cats.

Make some underground plump helmet farms, enlist the Noble guy to help the farmer out. Get the farmer to start brewing the plump helmets into Wine and you'll be set.

You could also have the Noble start cooking the Wine to basically multiply your foodstocks 5 fold if you get any food related problems ;)

1 plump helmet + empty barrel => barrel of 5 Dwarven Wine

2 barrels of 5 dwarven wine (10 wine units in all) + Cook Easy Meal => Stack of 10 units of cooked food and 2 empty barrels
3 barrels of 5 dwarven wine (15 wine units in all) + Cook Fine Meal => Stack of 15 units of cooked food and 3 empty barrels
4 barrels of 5 dwarven wine (20 wine units in all) + Cook Lavish Meal => Stack of 20 units of cooked food and 4 empty barrels

Also, cooked meals NEVER spoil.
